In case you didn't already know, I've been furiously looking around at different career options. This Tuesday I flew up to Jersey City, NJ to interview with Knight, a pretty big financial company. They apparently interviewed about 30 candidates for one position, and I got an offer. However the pay was pretty low considering it's in the NYC area. They said it was because I was just coming out of school and they didn't budge during negotiation. So I didn't take it. I had found out about that job through TopCoder, who has been helping me look at a few companies. But since that didn't work out TopCoder is now considering hiring me for themselves!
I'm really excited about that. They're a small company (about 65 employees) and my job would include lots of tasks, but primarily I'd be responsible for leading some of their development projects that they contract out to their members. Very cool. The pay looks like it'll be good, and they're located in Glastonbury, CT, which from what I hear is a very nice place. I'm flying up there this coming Tuesday! Can't wait!
Meanwhile I keep putting off answering the one offer I have on the table. I hate doing this but I don't know what else to do! I know the people there personally since I co-oped there for quite some time during school. I wouldn't mind working there by any means, but this TopCoder opportunity would be a much better career decision and I would probably enjoy the job more.
